A fire destroyed more than 500 sheet-metal and bamboo shelters in Nayapara refugee camp in Bangladesh on 14th January 2021. More than 2,000 people lost their homes.

"A fire burned down our shelter and destroyed everything. Our son Shohelur, who has cerebral palsy, lost his wheelchair. He cannot get around or see his friends without it. We need help,"

says Shohelur's mother.

Immediately after the fire, Humanity & Inclusion’s teams, who have been providing support to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh since 2017, distributed kits including soap, solar lamps, towels, dishes, and clothes to more than 500 families. Four HI psychosocial workers helped to provide psychological support to those who needed it. Our teams also handed out crutches, walking frames, and other devices to people who required them. Many families had lost everything to the devastating event.
